KUCCPS has issued a final reminder to students with only two days left to submit their applications for the 2026 placement cycle. The deadline is May 6, 2026. Students must act quickly to secure their spots in various educational programs.

The application portal opened on April 8, 2026. Eligible candidates include KCSE holders from the 2000 to 2025 cohorts. Students who scored a minimum grade of C+ in the 2025 KCSE qualify for degree programmes. Others with grades A to E can apply for TVET courses.

KMTC offers a range of diploma and certificate programmes available for immediate intake. Currently, there are 31 courses on offer for the ongoing March intake at KMTC, including eight certificate programmes and 23 diploma programmes.

KUCCPS has conducted nationwide mobilisation drives to guide Form Four leavers through this process. Placement results will be released through the KUCCPS Student Portal. Applicants must accept their placement offers within a stipulated deadline or risk losing their government-sponsored slots.

Key reminders:

Only two days remain before the application window closes.

Students seeking financial support must apply through the Higher Education Funding portal.

Cut-off points for degree programmes will be determined after the placement process is complete.

KUCCPS emphasized the importance of retaining payment reference numbers for course revisions. The organization aims to ensure that all eligible candidates are aware of these critical deadlines and procedures.

“Cut-off points are established after the placement process is complete,” a KUCCPS spokesperson stated. “Applicants must accept the offer within the stipulated deadline, or they may lose the government-sponsored slot.”

Internship postings are declining, posing challenges for students seeking summer positions. This trend affects first-generation students and entry-level job seekers.

Internship postings are declining, highlighting the challenges faced by students in securing summer positions. 41% of Class of 2025 students had applied to at least one internship through Handshake, a significant drop from 34% of Class of 2023 students who applied by graduation.

The job market appears bleak for many graduates. Internship postings are decreasing for summer 2026, leading to concerns about the availability of opportunities. The Burwell Career Center at the University of Denver provides resources like job portals and resume building to assist students.

Angel Lupian Alvarez is a first-generation student graduating with a bachelor of science in accounting and an internship position at Ernst & Young. He previously completed an internship at Charles Schwab, gaining valuable experience in the finance industry. Lupian plans to pursue a master’s in accounting from CU Denver through the 4+1 program.

Lupian’s journey reflects broader trends among first-generation students navigating the competitive landscape of internships. He credits his professor, Cynthia Kennedy, for encouraging him to consider accounting over finance. “I walk into those rooms knowing that I belong there,” he said.

Challenges persist as many students seek to enhance their skills through internships. Orell noted, “You can never have enough experience, even for entry level, because entry level is not entry level anymore.” This sentiment resonates with many who feel pressure to stand out in a crowded job market.

Despite these hurdles, networking events and career fairs remain crucial for connecting students with potential employers. Organizations like TRIO Student Support Services aim to support these efforts by offering mentoring and guidance.

The future remains uncertain as internship opportunities continue to dwindle. Students must adapt to this evolving landscape while seeking ways to build their professional networks and gain essential experience.

The PM Internship Scheme has dramatically underperformed, with only 10,000 internships completed out of 2.45 lakh offered over the last two years. This shortfall raises serious concerns about its implementation and impact.

Key statistics:

The scheme aims to provide internship opportunities to one crore youth over five years.

Only 10,000 internships were completed from the total offered.

Only 1.5% of the allocated budget was utilized in FY 2024-25.

The PM Internship Scheme was introduced to address youth unemployment and enhance skills among young people. However, the low completion rate indicates significant challenges in execution. The Teachers Service Commission has also faced legal challenges regarding its internship program’s constitutionality.

Currently, over 44,000 teacher interns are deployed in public schools across the country. Despite these efforts, chronic staffing shortages remain an issue. The need for effective environmental governance and sustainable development is pressing as the nation grapples with these challenges.

John Brittas criticized the scheme’s performance, stating, “This is appalling. Prime Minister Modi owes the country a clear answer for this gross underutilisation of a wildly hyped scheme announced with much fanfare in the last Budget.” His remarks reflect widespread frustration among stakeholders regarding the lack of transparency and accountability in the program.

As the application deadline for an internship position within the United Nations Environment Programme approaches on May 6, 2026, many are looking for alternative opportunities that may better serve their career aspirations.

Pisa’s relegation from Serie A marks their fifth time dropping out after just one season. The team faced Lecce on May 1, 2026, at the Stadio Romeo Anconetani. Pisa has suffered defeat in their last five Serie A games.

Pisa currently sits at the bottom of the Serie A table, with only two wins all season. They have been in the relegation zone since the third round of matches. In their recent match against Lecce, Pisa lost 2-1.

Pisa’s struggles are evident in their goal statistics. They have scored just one goal in their last five league matches. This poor run has left them with a 14-point gap behind Lecce, who is four points clear of relegation.

Key statistics:

Pisa has only won 2 games all season in Serie A.

Pisa has suffered 5 consecutive losses.

Lecce has won 3 of the last 4 meetings against Pisa.

Pisa’s top scorer is Stefano Moreo with 6 goals.

Pisa has only 2 wins in 17 home matches this season.

Oscar Hiljemark and Antonio Caracciolo have struggled to make an impact this season. Their inability to turn draws into victories has been a defining factor in their struggles. Lecce’s slightly stronger position and defensive edge could prove decisive as the season concludes.

The next match for Pisa will be crucial as they try to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table. With three matches remaining, they need to secure victories to improve their standing.

The principal of Alliance Girls High School faces disciplinary action after a more than 100% unauthorized fee hike sparked investigations and complaints from parents. The school raised its fees from Ksh.53,558 to Ksh.120,179 without approval from the Ministry of Education.

The increase in fees has led to significant backlash. Parents reported that the fee hike was not authorized, prompting Julius Ogamba from the Ministry of Education to state, “We received a lot of complaints from parents of Alliance Girls that the school fees had been raised to Ksh.120,000 and this was not authorised.” The Ministry confirmed the unauthorized fee increase through its investigation.

Principal Margaret Njeru endorsed a budget that included non-essential expenditures. This budget allocated Ksh.25,000,000 for a staff trip to Dubai among other questionable spending items totaling millions of shillings.

The Board of Management has been recommended for dissolution due to approving this disputed budget. Ogamba criticized the board’s failure in financial management, saying, “The Board of Management failed in its duty to guide on prudent management of financial resources.”

Other budget items included Ksh.16,000,000 for annual trips and Ksh.1,100,000 for moral and spiritual activities.

The Ministry has directed that findings be presented to the County Education Board for further action. Observers expect further developments as the investigation continues and additional details emerge regarding the financial management practices at the school.

The alleged missile strike on Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani University occurred on April 27, 2026, escalating tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The attack reportedly resulted in seven fatalities and injured 75 others.

The rocket attack allegedly launched from Pakistan damaged the Faculty of Education building. Among the injured were one professor and around 30 university students. Classes resumed the following day despite the chaos.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have deteriorated due to ongoing conflicts and accusations of attacks on educational institutions. This incident further strains academic ties, which had been fostered through various scholarship programs.

Key facts about the incident:

A rocket attack struck Sayed Jamaluddin Afghani University, resulting in damage to its Faculty of Education building.

At least seven people were killed, including one professor.

Seventy-five individuals were injured, with around 30 being university students.

Afghanistan’s Ministry of Higher Education condemned the attack as a direct assault on education. Hamdullah Fitrat, a Taliban deputy spokesperson, stated that civilian residences were deliberately targeted in these attacks. However, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting rejected these claims as frivolous and fake.

The Allama Muhammad Iqbal Scholarship Programme allocates 4,500 scholarships for Afghan students from 2022 to 2031. This initiative has funded thousands of Afghan youth to pursue degrees in various fields in Pakistan. Yet, the recent attack raises concerns about the future of such programs.

KNEC introduces an SMS-based verification system to streamline national exam registration. The deadline for verification is April 30, 2026.

The post KNEC Introduces SMS-Based Verification System for National Examinations appeared first on newskenya.

KNEC has introduced an SMS-based verification system to streamline the registration process for national examinations in Kenya. Parents can verify their child’s registration status by sending the learner’s assessment or index number to 20076. The deadline for verifying registration status is set for April 30, 2026.

KNEC has implemented this system to ensure accuracy and efficiency ahead of the upcoming national examinations. The verification process will confirm personal details such as names, gender, date of birth, and school. This initiative is crucial as it aims to prevent discrepancies that could hinder students’ academic progression.

In addition to the registration verification, KNEC has set May 29, 2026, as the deadline for schools to submit Grade 4 and 5 assessment results. These assessments contribute significantly to the final scores of students under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). Specifically, Grade 4 and Grade 5 assessments each account for 20% of the final score for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), while the KPSEA exam itself accounts for 40%.

KNEC has warned that any discrepancies or missing data could jeopardize the academic progression of thousands of learners under CBC. Parents who notice errors or inconsistencies have been advised to contact their respective school heads promptly. This step is essential before the system is locked after the verification deadline.

The transition to a more holistic evaluation system under CBC has replaced traditional high-stakes examinations in Kenya. This shift reflects a broader educational reform aimed at enhancing learning outcomes through continuous assessment rather than relying solely on end-of-year exams.

KNEC has set a strict deadline for schools to complete and upload results for Grade 4 and 5 School-Based Assessments (SBA) by May 29, 2026. This new requirement underscores the urgent need for accuracy in student evaluations as Kenya transitions to a Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).

Schools must administer projects and practical assessments, score them, and upload outcomes on the CBA portal. Access to the assessment tools opened on March 2, 2026. KNEC has instructed schools to maintain all records for verification and future inquiries.

Key statistics:

Grade 4 and Grade 5 assessments each contribute 20% to the final summative mark for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA).

The national KPSEA exam accounts for the remaining 40% of the final score.

Parents must verify their children’s registration details by April 30, 2026, to avoid administrative issues.

The assessments include subjects such as Science and Technology, Creative Arts and Sports, and Agriculture. Errors in registration details can complicate certificate issuance or result processing. KNEC aims to reduce last-minute corrections that could lead to further complications during the examination process.

KNEC stated, “Schools will be expected to administer the projects/practical, score and upload the assessment outcomes of all learners on the CBA portal within the stipulated time.” The integrity of these assessments directly influences student placements into Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).

Officials have emphasized that accuracy is crucial. KNEC has provided a user manual to assist schools in scoring learners effectively. This guidance aims to streamline processes and minimize errors.
