Police probe shooting of a man in broad daylight on Mirema Drive

Police in Nairobi are investigating the murder of a man in Mirema who was accosted by unknown assailants who shot several times and killed him instantly as he drove after dropping a female companion.

It remains unclear why the man, now identified as Samuel Mugota, was murdered, with detectives suspecting a deal gone sour.

At 1.57pm on Monday, according to CCTV footage obtained by Citizen TV, a man in a cap and a coat, whom one would assume is just a pedestrian, is seen approaching a Honda CRV and pulling out what appears to be a pistol before opening fire.

The offices of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) say politicians with criminal records set to vie for various elective seats in the August polls, are not yet off the hook.

A section of Ukambani leaders has pleaded with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to reconsider his decision and rejoin Azimio.

Speaking in Machakos town the leaders led by Governors Charity Ngilu of Kitui, Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni and Machakos Gubernatorial aspirant Nzioka Waita, the leaders said Kalonzo should bite the bullet and sacrifice for the sake of the community.

4 Petrol Stations Flagged For Overpricing Fuel

The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has flagged four petrol stations for offering petroleum for sale above the prescribed ceiling price.

According to the Ministry of Petroleum, the four retail stations which now face stern action are located in Migori, Kehancha, Awendo and Isebania.

The sanctioning of the stations comes on the backdrop of investigations and surveillance including a probe by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) on companies reported to have failed to maintain minimum operational stocks or hoard petroleum.

Over 70,000 residents of Nakuru County have been issued title deeds in the past one month during the ongoing titling program initiated by President Uhuru Kenyatta two years ago.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui however has expressed concern that a high number of land disputes pending in Nakuru courts are slowing the program meant to issue title deeds to at least 100,000 landowners by end of the year.

Kinyanjui indicated that the title deeds had been given out to landowners within Kuresoi South, Naivasha, Rongai, Njoro, Subukia, Bahati and Gilgil Sub Counties.

ISIS confirmed on Thursday the death of its leader Abu Ibrahim Al-hashemi Al-Quraishi and its spokesperson Abu Hamza Al-Quraishi, and announced Abu Al-Hassan Al-hashemi Al-Quraishi as its new chief.

Quraishi, a religious scholar and soldier in former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein’s army who led IS from the shadows for a little over two years, died in a U.S. special forces raid in northern Syria in February when he detonated a bomb that killed him and family members, the U.S. administration said.

Treasury In Breach Of Proposed Public Debt Limit

Even before changes to the public debt limit through amendments to the Public Finance Management Act are effected, the National Treasury is already in breach of the limit it seeks.

The changes currently under the public participation stage seek to change Kenya’s debt limit from the current ceiling of Ksh.9 trillion to no more than 55 per cent of GDP at Present Value (PV) terms.

The PV calculation of public debt compares the stock of debt as a share of the economy of GDP less grants and interest payments on external debt at the time of its contracting.
