The ongoing heavy rains in Kenya have resulted in significant fatalities and widespread destruction, prompting urgent warnings from the Kenya Meteorological Department. At least 18 people have died due to flooding, and over 54,000 households have been affected nationwide.

In the capital city of Nairobi, approximately 6,000 households are among those impacted. The rains have caused flooding in dozens of schools and hospitals across the country. Authorities report that 17 roads have been cut off, complicating rescue efforts.

Additionally, mudslides have forced thousands to evacuate from the western Rift Valley area. The Kenya Meteorological Department has indicated that enhanced rainfall is expected to continue into the first two weeks of May.

This year’s heavy rains began in March, coinciding with the start of the rainy season. By the end of March, more than 100 people were reported dead due to similar weather conditions. Heavy rains in Kenya have historically caused significant damage and loss of life during the rainy season.

The National Police Service announced ongoing search and rescue operations. They confirmed the loss of 18 lives as a result of these incidents, underscoring the grave danger posed by the ongoing weather conditions.

Authorities are on high alert. They advise the public to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures, especially those living in landslide-prone or flood-affected areas. The Ministry of Health has warned about potential waterborne diseases stemming from floodwaters.

As rescue operations continue, officials are working to assess damage and provide assistance to those displaced by flooding. The situation remains critical as communities grapple with the aftermath of this disaster.

The upcoming match between Pisa and Lecce raises questions about Pisa’s ability to compete effectively. Pisa’s dire form and lack of cutting edge make it difficult to back them, while Lecce’s defensive edge could prove decisive.

Pisa has lost their last five league games, scoring just one goal and conceding nine during that stretch. At home, they have managed only two wins in 17 matches this season. Their top scorer, Stefano Moreo, has netted just six goals. In contrast, Lecce sits at 17th place with 29 points and is also winless in their last six matches, having scored only two goals while conceding seven.

Historically, matches between these two teams have been low-scoring. Pisa has only scored once across their last four meetings with Lecce. Furthermore, Lecce has won three of the last four head-to-head clashes against Pisa.

Key statistics:

Pisa’s losing streak: 5 league matches

Pisa’s goals scored in last five matches: 1

Pisa’s home wins this season: 2

Lecce’s points in the league: 29

Lecce’s winless streak: 6 matches

Lecce’s head-to-head wins against Pisa: 4

Both teams are struggling in front of goal, making a high-scoring match unlikely. The prediction leans toward a Lecce win with both teams not scoring.

Nairobi residents are grappling with severe flooding following a heavy rainfall advisory issued on April 29, 2026. Emergency services, including the Kenya Defence Forces and the National Police Service, have been deployed to assist in rescue operations.

The National Police Service warned that “The situation is especially dangerous because of flash floods, which can occur suddenly and without warning.” The Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier reported persistent rains affecting Nairobi and surrounding regions.

On April 28, 2026, intense rainfall began, leading to significant flooding in parts of the Central Business District. As a result, transport disruptions have affected movement across the city. The flood alert issued by the National Police Service urged residents to stay vigilant.

Authorities reported that rivers including Nairobi, Mathare, Ngong, Kamiti, and Athi are at critically high levels. One fatality has been confirmed — a 29-year-old victim swept away by floodwaters. Additionally, over 100 homes have been submerged.

Residents have been advised not to drive through or walk in moving water. The police emphasized that even shallow floodwaters can be strong enough to sweep away vehicles and people. The ongoing rains are expected to continue throughout the Labour Day weekend.

The Kenya Meteorological Department’s advisory covers April 27 to May 4, indicating persistent rains across large parts of the country. Officials have not provided a timeline for when the weather conditions might improve.

The community is urged to remain cautious as emergency services continue their operations. With more rain forecasted, further flooding may pose additional risks in Nairobi.

Rain is forecast in the west and north of the Akmola region, with thunderstorms expected during the day. Similarly, the Atyrau region is bracing for rain and thunderstorms, particularly in the west, north, and south, where heavy rain and hail are possible. The West Kazakhstan region is also set for rain and thunderstorms overnight, with conditions expected to remain unsettled throughout the day.

In addition to the rain, gusts of winds are expected to reach speeds of 15–20 m/s in the south, east, and central areas of Kazakhstan, while the Alakol Lakes area of the Zhetysu region may experience even stronger gusts of 23–28 m/s. This dynamic weather pattern is indicative of a broader trend, with intermittent rains interspersed with sunny intervals across most regions.

Observers note that the forecast indicates a significant shift in weather patterns, which could lead to varying impacts across the affected regions. The Central Highlands of Kenya, for instance, are projected to receive some of the heaviest rainfall, with totals ranging between 50 mm and over 120 mm in certain locations. Meanwhile, North-Eastern counties such as Mandera, Wajir, and Garissa are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, generally between 10 mm and 50 mm.

As the rain continues to fall in Kazakhstan, dust storms are also expected during the day in the central, northern, and eastern parts of the Kyzylorda region. This combination of rain and dust storms presents a unique challenge for residents and local authorities, who must remain vigilant in monitoring weather conditions.

High fire danger persists in the north, west, and central parts of the Almaty region, highlighting the ongoing risks associated with fluctuating weather patterns. The interplay between rain and dry conditions can lead to increased fire hazards, necessitating caution among residents and emergency services alike.

With rainfall expected to persist across large parts of Kazakhstan over the next few days, the situation remains fluid. Authorities are advising residents to stay informed about weather updates and to prepare for potential disruptions caused by the storms.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the rainfall and its impacts on local communities. As the situation develops, observers will be closely monitoring the weather patterns to provide timely updates and guidance.

“Kenya Met warns of floods and heat as April long rains peak,” a statement from the Kenya Meteorological Department highlighted, indicating significant weather changes expected across the country.

The department forecasts that most of Kenya will experience near-average rainfall during April, but with notable exceptions. Above-average rainfall is anticipated in the northern counties of Marsabit, Wajir, and Mandera, while the Coast is expected to receive below-average rainfall throughout the month.

Following a wet March that marked the onset of the long rains season, the April outlook presents a mixed bag for various regions. Rainfall distribution will vary across the country, with the first half of April expected to see suppressed rainfall in many areas.

Daytime temperatures are projected to remain above average, particularly in the Coast, North-eastern, and North-western regions, where temperatures could reach around 30 degrees Celsius. In contrast, cooler conditions are expected in the Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley.

Farmers in high-rainfall areas face the risk of waterlogging and crop damage, prompting the Kenya Met to urge them to reinforce drainage systems to prevent potential losses. Residents in flood-prone zones are advised to keep drainage channels clear and avoid low-lying areas near rivers.

Communities in northern Kenya have been urged to remain vigilant, avoid riverbanks, and heed evacuation directives in flood-prone zones. This warning comes in light of the 100 lives lost due to the March rains, underscoring the seriousness of the situation.

As the long rains season progresses, the Kenya Meteorological Department anticipates that it will taper off in most parts of the country by late May. The department continues to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as necessary.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact impact of the weather patterns on local agriculture and communities, but the warnings serve as a crucial reminder for preparedness in the face of changing climatic conditions.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a warning for April, indicating potential floods and heat as rainfall patterns change across the country.

The post Kenya Met Weather Forecast April appeared first on newskenya.

Reaction from the field

The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a significant warning for the month of April 2026, indicating that the country may face both floods and heat as the long rains season reaches its peak. The forecast suggests that while most regions will experience near-average rainfall, specific areas, particularly in North-eastern Kenya, are expected to receive above-average precipitation, raising the risk of localized flooding.

In detail, counties such as Marsabit, Wajir, and Mandera are projected to see enhanced rainfall, which could lead to dangerous flooding conditions. This comes on the heels of a wet March that marked the onset of the long rains season, during which approximately 100 lives were lost due to heavy rains. The Kenya Met has cautioned communities in flood-prone areas to clear drainage channels and remain vigilant as the month progresses.

Conversely, the coastal regions of Kenya, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale, are forecasted to receive below-average rainfall throughout April. This disparity in rainfall patterns could exacerbate existing challenges for farmers and residents in these areas. The department noted, “The Coast faces the opposite problem,” highlighting the contrasting weather conditions across the country.

During the first half of April, rainfall is expected to be suppressed across much of Kenya, with occasional afternoon and evening storms likely. However, conditions are anticipated to change towards the end of the month, with intensified rainfall expected. This shift could lead to further complications for agricultural activities, especially for farmers in high-rainfall areas, who have been urged to reinforce drainage systems to prevent waterlogging.

In addition to rainfall concerns, warmer-than-average temperatures are projected for the Coast, North-eastern Kenya, and North-western Kenya. Meanwhile, cooler conditions are expected in the Highlands, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley. The variability in temperatures and rainfall could have significant implications for local agriculture and food security.

Residents in flood-prone zones are advised to keep drainage channels clear and avoid low-lying areas to mitigate risks associated with flash floods, soil erosion, and landslides during heavy rainfall events. The public has been warned to remain alert, as strong winds are also expected along the Kenyan coast, with wave heights ranging from 0.2 to 2.25 meters and wind speeds between 2 to 20 knots, which may affect small boats.

As the month progresses, the situation remains fluid, and details regarding the extent of rainfall and its impacts are still unfolding. The Kenya Met has emphasized the importance of preparedness and vigilance among communities as they navigate the potential challenges posed by the changing weather patterns.

Patches of fog may be slow to clear from inland areas tomorrow morning, but Saturday is expected to bring sunny spells and few areas of cloud, mist, or fog at first. The high temperature for Friday is forecasted to reach 77°F, with a low of 63°F.

After a cloudy, cool, and wet Wednesday, Thursday ended up being absolutely beautiful, setting the stage for a more settled weekend. Saturday is anticipated to be dry and settled, with plenty of sunshine developing throughout the day.

However, Sunday will start off murky, turning breezy and remaining mainly cloudy with just the odd brighter break. The high temperature for Sunday is also expected to be around 79°F, similar to Saturday.

As the day progresses, cloud cover will push in from the north in the late afternoon to evening, potentially bringing a 20% chance of rain by night. Observers are also noting a 40% chance of rain later in the evening.

Looking ahead to Monday, early sunny spells will be replaced by cloud and spots of drizzle, indicating a shift in weather patterns as the week continues. Overall, the weekend looks promising for outdoor activities, but the changing conditions may require some flexibility in plans.

What do today’s predictions reveal about the performance of RB Leipzig and Manchester City? As of now, RB Leipzig is positioned fifth in the Bundesliga with a total of 47 points, showcasing a mixed form with two wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last five league matches.

In these recent matches, RB Leipzig has scored seven goals while conceding six, indicating a competitive yet vulnerable defense. This performance places them in the race for Champions League spots, a crucial objective for the team.

On the other hand, Manchester City faces significant challenges as they prepare for their next match. They suffered a 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League tie, which has raised concerns about their ability to advance in the tournament.

In their latest Premier League outing, Manchester City was held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham United, further complicating their title defense. This result has left them with questions about their current form and strategy moving forward.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, is in strong form, having recently defeated Elche 4-1 in La Liga. Federico Valverde’s impressive performance, scoring five goals in the last three games, adds to the pressure on Manchester City as they prepare for the second leg of their Champions League tie.

As the teams gear up for their upcoming matches, the focus will remain on RB Leipzig’s ability to maintain their position in the Bundesliga and Manchester City’s efforts to recover from their recent setbacks. The outcomes of these matches could significantly impact their respective seasons.

Details remain unconfirmed regarding the exact implications of these performances on future matches, but the stakes are undeniably high for both teams.

Heavy rainfall is expected across large parts of Kenya, including Nairobi, starting on the night of March 18 and persisting until the morning of March 24, 2026. The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued warnings as the rains are anticipated to intensify, with rainfall amounts exceeding 20mm in 24 hours during this period.

Counties likely to be affected include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nakuru, Kisumu, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Kakamega, Bungoma, Busia, and Nyeri. The rainfall is expected to peak between March 20 and March 23 before easing slightly on March 24.

Residents in landslide-prone areas, particularly over the slopes of the Aberdare ranges, Mount Kenya, and other hilly regions, are advised to stay vigilant due to the increased likelihood of landslides triggered by saturated soils. The advisory classified the rainfall as moderate to heavy, with a probability of occurrence between 33% and 66%.

The government has urged citizens to remain cautious as heavy rains coincide with the Eid al-Fitr holiday, raising the risk of floods and landslides. Flooding has already impacted at least 21 counties, damaging schools, markets, roads, and critical water and electricity infrastructure.

The death toll from recent floods has risen to 73, with seven individuals reported missing and nearly 69,000 people displaced. Multi-agency teams have been deployed to support rescue operations and assist affected families.

Authorities are encouraging the public to closely monitor updates and follow safety guidelines as conditions evolve. “We urge all Kenyans to exercise extra caution, particularly in areas prone to flooding,” stated the Ministry of Interior and National Administration.

As the situation develops, the Kenya Meteorological Department warns, “The rainfall being experienced over several parts of the country is expected to intensify.” This moment calls for heightened vigilance, compassion, and collective responsibility among citizens.
