Liverpool’s Pre-Season Tour Concludes with Defeat
Liverpool concluded their United States pre-season tour with a 4-2 loss to Leeds in Chicago. The match saw Andoni Iraola’s side initially take a two-goal lead before Leeds mounted a second-half comeback. The game was played at Soldier Field on Sunday.
Luke Chambers and Florian Wirtz scored for Liverpool, putting them ahead 2-0 by halftime. Wirtz’s goal was the result of a team effort that included Trey Nyoni and Jeremie Frimpong. The match also marked the first pre-season appearances for Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, and Ryan Gravenberch. Iraola commented positively on the performances of Wirtz and Isak, who played in the first half. He also provided an update on Jeremie Frimpong, who requested a substitution due to what Iraola described as an ‘overload’ rather than a significant injury. Iraola expressed optimism that no players were lost to injury during the match.

Both teams are now returning to England to complete their pre-season preparations. Liverpool’s remaining pre-season fixtures include a match against Monaco at Anfield on August 9, followed by a game against Como, also at Anfield, on August 16. Leeds will play RB Leipzig at Elland Road on August 8 and Man Utd in Dublin on August 12.
Iraola remains positive about the work accomplished during the tour, acknowledging the global support for the club. He emphasized the importance of being ready for the start of the season, when fans expect strong performances and results. The team’s first Premier League match will be against Newcastle at St James’ Park.
