Southampton FC Women’s captain Atlanta Primus has been named the PFA Community Champion for 2025/26 for her significant contributions to community empowerment through the Saints Foundation.

The Ignite Potential project, which aims to empower girls aged 11–16, secured £25,000 in funding from the PFA and Premier League. Beth Osbourne, a representative of the Saints Foundation, praised Primus for her leadership. “Atlanta has been an incredible partner to our Gender Equality work this season; her passion for creating opportunities for girls shines through in everything she does,” Osbourne said.

Primus’s efforts have made a notable impact in promoting women’s football and community engagement. The Ignite Potential initiative would not exist without her “leadership and belief in what young women can achieve,” Osbourne added.

Meanwhile, Southampton FC faces challenges on the pitch as they compete in the Championship. They currently sit in fifth place after their last match against Bristol City ended in a 2-2 draw. Cyle Larin leads the team as their top goalscorer with 5 goals.

The team recently played against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final. Southampton has won 8 of their last 10 league games, indicating their strong performance as they push for promotion.

PFA CEO Maheta Molango remarked on the importance of community influence: “We know from our work with players that they feel passionately about using their influence in positive ways to drive change in their communities.” This sentiment reflects a growing trend among athletes aiming to contribute positively beyond sports.

The next match for Southampton is scheduled against Ipswich Town, kicking off at 11:45. Observers expect that continued success on the field will further enhance community initiatives like those led by Primus.
