Arsenal are reportedly exploring a potential deal to bring Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior to the Emirates Stadium. While no direct club-to-club contact has been made, interest in the Brazil international is understood to be significant. Vinicius Junior is one of several forward targets the Premier League champions are considering as they look to bolster their attacking options.
The 26-year-old Brazilian is currently in the final year of his contract with Real Madrid. Should an agreement on a new deal not be reached, Real Madrid might consider selling him rather than risk losing him as a free agent next summer. This situation presents a potential window of opportunity for interested clubs.
Strengthening Attacking Options
Arsenal aims to strengthen its left-wing options this summer. The club recently sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas for £17m and acquired Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge for £34m. However, another alternative in that position, Gabriel Martinelli, scored only one Premier League goal last season.
Vinicius Junior, who was the 2024 Ballon d’Or runner-up, is considered a superstar addition who would significantly enhance Arsenal‘s squad. He scored 22 goals across all competitions for Real Madrid in the 2025-26 season. During the recent World Cup, he also scored four goals for Brazil, playing in all five of their matches before their elimination by Norway in the round of 16.
Other players on Arsenal‘s radar include Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid, Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain. Morgan Rogers was also a target, but Arsenal was reportedly not prepared to pay more than £80m for the England international, who subsequently joined Chelsea in a £117m deal, a British record fee.
Tzolis is Arsenal‘s third addition this summer, following Piero Hincapié, whose temporary deal became a full-time transfer, and goalkeeper Illan Meslier, who was out of contract at Leeds. Contract Situation and Wage Demands
Vinicius Junior‘s future at Real Madrid has become uncertain following José Mourinho‘s return as manager. The player is in the last 12 months of his contract after eight campaigns with the club, and negotiations for a renewal have not yet resulted in a breakthrough. Real Madrid would prefer to sell him rather than lose him for free next summer, especially as he would be due a significant loyalty bonus.
According to reports, Vinicius Junior currently earns 15m Euros net per year. Real Madrid has reportedly offered him 20m Euros, but he is seeking 30m Euros, which amounts to just over 550,000 Euros per week net. This contract situation has been ongoing for 18 months, with neither side reportedly budging on their demands.
The relationship between Vinicius Junior and new Real Madrid boss José Mourinho has also been a point of focus. It is understood that the player and coach have communicated since an incident last season where Vinicius Junior was reportedly abused by Benfica midfielder Gianluca Prestianni, who was then managed by Mourinho. Prestianni was banned for six matches after admitting to using homophobic language. Despite this, the player and coach were reportedly ready to start the new campaign together with a clean slate.
Real Madrid is reportedly considering Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig as a potential replacement if Vinicius Junior departs. Vinicius Junior joined Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo and has made 375 total appearances, registering 128 goals and 100 assists for the club.
The idea of signing Vinicius Junior has received approval at all levels within Arsenal, indicating serious intent despite the early stage of interest. His potential move to the Premier League for the 2026/27 season is a possibility being discussed.
