Kenya Pipeline secures women’s title

Kenya Pipeline Corporation (KPC) emerged victorious in the 2026 Mozzart Kenya Cup women’s final, defeating KCB Bank 3-2 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena. The match saw KPC stage a comeback after losing the first set, ultimately winning with set scores of 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 23-25, and 15-11. This win marks their reclamation of the coveted trophy.

KCB initially took the lead by winning the first set 25-21. However, Kenya Pipeline responded strongly in the second set, securing a 25-12 victory to level the match. They continued their momentum into the third set, winning 25-21.

Despite being down, KCB fought back to claim the fourth set 25-23, forcing a decisive fifth set. In the final set, KCB held an 8-6 advantage at the change of ends, but Kenya Pipeline’s experience allowed them to draw level at 11-11 before closing out the set 15-11 to clinch the championship.

Kenya Pipeline reached the final after overcoming the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in their semi-final match. KCB, the defending champions, earned their spot in the final by defeating Kenya Prisons in a five-set semi-final encounter.

Bronze medals decided

In the women’s bronze medal match, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations secured third place by narrowly beating Kenya Prisons in another five-set thriller. DCI initially led by two sets, winning 25-22 and 25-23. Kenya Prisons then mounted a comeback, taking the third set 25-9 and the fourth 26-24, to force a fifth set.

The final set was closely contested, with Kenya Prisons leading 8-6 at the change of ends. DCI rallied, leveling the scores at 14-14, 15-15, and 16-16, before ultimately winning the set 19-17 to claim third place.

For the men’s competition, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) claimed the bronze medal. They defeated Kenya Prisons 3-2 in their third-place playoff match. KPA recovered after losing the opening set, with set scores of 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 14-25, and 15-11. KPA maintained their composure in the deciding set, taking an 8-5 lead at the change of ends.

Men’s semi-final action

In the men’s semi-finals, General Service Unit (GSU) secured a place in the final with a straight-sets victory over Equity Bank, winning 25-22, 25-17, and 25-19. Victor Kipkemei was named Player of the Match for his performance.

GSU’s player, Victor Kipkemei, emphasized the importance of teamwork and tactical discipline in their victory. He also noted that the semi-finals would present a tougher challenge, requiring the team to maintain their fighting spirit and address any mistakes.

Kipkemei stated that GSU is using the knockout competition to improve upon their league performances and aims to win the trophy. He believes the team has learned from their domestic campaign and wants to demonstrate improvement in the Kenya Cup.

In another quarter-final match, Kenya Prisons secured their spot in the semi-finals by defeating Administration Police (APK) 3-0 with set scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-13. Chema Volleyball Club also advanced, sweeping Kenya Aviation Polytechnic (KAPU) 3-0, with set scores of 25-20, 25-15, and 25-15. Chema’s setter, Stephen Otieno, received the Player of the Match award.

The women’s semi-finals featured KCB against Kenya Prisons. KCB head coach Japheth Munala acknowledged the strength of Kenya Prisons, highlighting that matches between the two teams demand discipline, resilience, and character. KCB faced squad changes with Edith Wisa and Mildred Cherop ruled out of the tournament. Despite this, captain Mercy Moim stated that the team was prepared and motivated for the high-stakes encounter.

KCB were the defending champions, having won the inaugural women’s title on July 13, 2025, with a 3-0 victory over Kenya Pipeline. The other women’s semi-final saw Kenya Pipeline face the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, with Pipeline entering as favorites after a strong quarter-final performance.
