Real Madrid have reportedly adjusted their position regarding the immediate future of young striker Endrick. Despite a successful loan spell, a fresh summer departure for the 20-year-old Brazilian cannot be entirely ruled out.
Endrick spent the latter half of the 2025/26 campaign on loan at Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1. This move followed a period where he struggled for game time during the initial part of the season in Spain. The loan was intended to help him regain form and fitness, and it proved to be beneficial for all parties involved.
During his time with Lyon, Endrick made 21 appearances across all competitions, contributing to 16 direct goals. His performance in France, where he was described as the best centre-forward in Ligue 1, showcased his goal-scoring ability and his capacity to create danger through dribbling and passing.
Uncertainty Under New Management
The expectation was that Endrick would be given a new opportunity to demonstrate his talents back in La Liga for the upcoming season. However, this may not be the case. Reports indicate that Real Madrid are not dismissing the possibility of another loan for Endrick this summer.
The 19-year-old is scheduled to return to Madrid on July 28 after his holiday. His return, however, does not guarantee him a place in the squad, especially with the team set for a new direction under incoming manager José Mourinho. The club is still evaluating potential additions to their attack, making Endrick’s future a key question as pre-season approaches.
According to journalist Rodra, Real Madrid are considering loaning Endrick out again, even though the player is determined to remain at the Santiago Bernabéu and compete for regular minutes. Mourinho plans to assess Endrick during pre-season before making a final decision on his role.
Mourinho will also evaluate Gonzalo García, another young player who has attracted interest from Premier League side Fulham. It is understood that if Real Madrid secures another high-profile forward, one of these two young players is likely to depart on loan.
Player’s Stance and World Cup Performance
Despite the club’s consideration of another loan, Endrick’s representatives have reportedly shifted their focus. While previous discussions prioritised game time ahead of the World Cup, their current preference is for him to stay and contend for his position, even if it means a reduced role at the start of the season.
Endrick’s journey over the past year has been notable. After being gradually integrated by former manager Carlo Ancelotti, he was reportedly sidelined by Xabi Alonso, leading to concerns from the club’s front office. This situation prompted Florentino Perez and Real Madrid to facilitate his loan move to Lyon.
His performance at the World Cup, however, presented a different picture. While Real Madrid and Brazil national team fans were critical of Ancelotti for not starting Endrick, his appearances off the bench during the tournament suggested he was not yet fully prepared for the pressure of such high-stakes occasions. This indicated that while he possesses talent, he may not yet be an elite player ready to consistently perform at the highest level.
New manager José Mourinho has reportedly sent positive messages through the media, indicating that Endrick will be important to his plans. Opportunities are expected for the Brazilian on both the right flank and as a number nine, even with interest in Michael Olise and the central role of Kylian Mbappe.
With the World Cup concluded and approximately a month remaining until the first matchday of the 2026/27 La Liga season, Real Madrid and José Mourinho have time to consider the best approach for Endrick’s development and integration into the squad.
