Arsenal leads pursuit for Hinshelwood
Arsenal is reportedly leading the competition to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Jack Hinshelwood. The North London club is said to be exploring a move for the highly-rated player during the summer transfer window. Preliminary contact has reportedly been made with Hinshelwood’s representatives as Arsenal prepares a formal offer.
Reports suggest that a bid in the range of £43m to £51m could lead to an agreement for the midfielder. Hinshelwood, who is 21 years old, has gained attention since breaking into Brighton’s first team and was part of the England squad that won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Mikel Arteta is understood to be an admirer of Hinshelwood’s versatility, viewing him as a suitable addition to his squad. The midfielder is comfortable in central midfield and has also performed well in both full-back positions. His tactical versatility is seen as a key appeal for Arsenal.
Competition for the midfielder
Despite Arsenal reportedly leading the race, they are expected to face competition from other Premier League clubs. Manchester United is understood to have a long-standing interest in Hinshelwood and has made enquiries regarding his availability. The club is reportedly planning to submit its own proposal.
Additionally, Manchester City is also monitoring the situation and considers the English player as a transfer target. Brighton remains in a strong negotiating position due to Hinshelwood having three years remaining on his current contract.
In other transfer news, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been removed from Marseille‘s captaincy after reportedly declining a move to Newcastle. This decision is said to have caused irritation to the club’s owner. Newcastle is also reportedly interested in Brighton‘s Carlos Baleba as they look to strengthen their midfield.
Mika Godts‘ agent has indicated that a move to Paris St-Germain is close for the 21-year-old. Meanwhile, Coventry is interested in signing 20-year-old English defender Josh Acheampong from Chelsea.
Barcelona is reportedly preparing a third bid for Spain midfielder Rodri, with an offer of about £60m, though this is still expected to be short of Manchester City‘s valuation.
