Chelsea has confirmed the signing of Kazakhstan international Dastan Satpayev from FC Kairat. The forward has immediately moved to Championship side Burnley on a loan deal for the upcoming season. Satpayev has committed to Chelsea with a contract extending until 2033.
The transfer agreement for Satpayev was initially reached in January 2025, with the deal valued at £3.4 million. This figure made him the most expensive export in the history of the Kazakhstan Premier League. Reports indicate that the loan to Burnley does not include a buy option, meaning Satpayev is expected to return to Chelsea in June 2027.
Satpayev’s Career Trajectory and International Recognition
Satpayev began his football development at Kairat, where he made his first-team debut at the age of 15 in May 2024. During his time with the club, he accumulated 58 first-team appearances, which included participation in the UEFA Champions League. He scored 26 goals for Kairat.
His performances for Kairat led to his senior international debut for Kazakhstan in March 2025. He became Kazakhstan’s youngest ever debutant at 16 years, seven months and ten days. To date, he has made eight appearances for his country. Satpayev scored his first international goal in November 2025 during a 1-1 draw against Belgium, making him the youngest player to score for Kazakhstan at 17 years, three months and three days.
Pre-season with Chelsea and Loan to Burnley
Before his loan move, Satpayev was part of Chelsea‘s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia. He featured in four matches during the tour, scoring in the victory against Western Sydney Wanderers. The loan to Burnley is intended to provide him with regular playing time, which is deemed crucial for his development.
The move to Burnley is part of a series of loan arrangements for Chelsea‘s young players this week, aimed at securing them consistent game time and experience. Other young players, such as Rayan Kavuma-Mukwana, who joined Portsmouth, and Reggie Walsh, who moved to Wigan Athletic, have also secured temporary exits. Shim Mheuka is also reportedly close to a temporary move.
Satpayev has already travelled to Burnley‘s Turf Moor base and has undergone a medical examination. He is expected to complete the routine medical before Burnley‘s upcoming match against West Ham next Sunday. Chelsea has expressed good wishes to Dastan for the season ahead and looks forward to monitoring his progress.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has spoken highly of Satpayev, having encountered the forward during his previous role at Real Madrid and also knowing him from Almaty. Alonso described Satpayev as a constant threat in attack, capable of cleverly exploiting inner channels and excelling when moving centrally from wider positions. The coach also noted that no definitive decision had been made regarding the player’s immediate trajectory at the time of his comments.
Satpayev, who stands at 5ft 9in, has drawn comparisons to players like Kylian Mbappe and Sergio Aguero in his native country. If he eventually plays for Chelsea‘s senior team, he would be the first Kazakh player to appear in a Premier League game. His contract with Chelsea runs until 2033.
