Transfer Targets and Player Movements
Manchester United continues to be active in the transfer market, with interest in several players as the club prepares for its return to the Champions League. Among the players linked with a move to Old Trafford are midfielder Manu Kone and left-back Lewis Hall. The club has already confirmed the arrival of five players this summer, while 12 have departed.
Reports suggest that United is also eyeing a move for Brentford striker Igor Thiago. The Brazilian forward, who joined Brentford in February 2024 from Club Brugge, reportedly scored 26 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions in his second full campaign. His performances contributed to Keith Andrews’ team finishing ninth in the Premier League. Thiago also started for Brazil.
Meanwhile, Morgan Gibbs-White has been identified as a potential replacement for Bruno Fernandes should he leave United. Gibbs-White, who played for Forest last season, scored 18 goals across the Premier League and Europa League and provided seven assists. He has reportedly attracted interest from Tottenham and Bayern Munich.
Defensive Reinforcements and Midfield Concerns
Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to strengthen United’s left-back options. Lewis Hall, a 21-year-old full-back from Newcastle United, is a prominent target. Hall reportedly had a breakthrough season under Eddie Howe in the Premier League. He also represented Newcastle in the Champions League and domestic cup competitions. Despite United’s interest, Newcastle has reportedly taken a tough stance, insisting Hall is not for sale, especially after losing Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.
Patrick Dorgu is expected to play in a more advanced role, and young player Harry Amass has reportedly been told he can leave the club, leaving Luke Shaw as the primary option at left-back. Amass, 19, has had loan spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.
In midfield, Manuel Ugarte is facing a significant period on the sidelines after sustaining an injury during Uruguay’s 1-0 defeat to Spain in the recent FIFA World Cup. This injury occurred after an inadvertent clash with a teammate. Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans have joined the club, with a third midfield signing potentially being considered.
Other Potential Departures and Interests
Marcus Rashford could be a high-profile departure this summer. Fenerbahce is reportedly looking to sign Rashford, who is said to be on a three-man shortlist that also includes AC Milan’s Rafael Leao and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr. Fenerbahce has reportedly held talks with Leao and contacted the representatives of Sarr and Rashford.
Jadon Sancho is preparing for his next move after a five-year tenure at Manchester United. He has reportedly reached verbal agreements with several suitors in Europe and the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia. A return to Borussia Dortmund, where he previously recorded 53 goals and 67 assists over 158 matches, is among the possibilities.
Bayern Munich is reportedly pursuing Benjamin Sesko, but United views the Slovenian striker as central to Michael Carrick’s long-term project. Sesko excelled as a substitute last term but found goals more challenging when starting.
Aurelien Tchouameni continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, Barcelona’s apparent interest in Rodri could make Tchouameni’s switch to United less likely. This comes after the Catalan giants reportedly did not exercise their option to sign Marcus Rashford permanently.
Manu Kone, a French international, has been tipped to shine in midfield for Arsenal rather than Manchester United, despite United’s reported interest. Kone impressed at the World Cup this summer, helping France to a fourth-place finish after losing to England in the third-place play-off.
Juventus has reportedly intensified their pursuit of Joshua Zirkzee, while Racing Santander’s Jorge Salinas could be an alternative to Hall for United.
