Spence’s Potential Move to Inter Milan

Tottenham defender Djed Spence is reportedly nearing an exit from the club, with Inter Milan engaging in discussions regarding a potential transfer. The England international is believed to be open to leaving Tottenham if an opportunity arises that guarantees first-team football. This comes as Inter Milan seeks to reinforce their squad, particularly in the wing-back position.

Inter Milan‘s interest in Spence has reportedly intensified after complications arose in their pursuit of another target. The Italian club had previously considered Spence earlier in the summer before shifting focus to other players. However, with those options proving difficult to secure, Spence has re-emerged as a candidate for the right flank.

Spence, who featured in several matches at the World Cup, including a semi-final, signed a new contract with Tottenham at the beginning of last season. However, reports suggest he has fallen further down the pecking order at the North London club following a new player’s arrival. Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are expected to be the preferred full-backs for the upcoming season.

Transfer Details and Other Club Interests

Discussions are currently underway regarding the transfer fee for Spence. Tottenham is understood to be seeking a package that reflects his potential and the remaining duration of his contract. Financial details from Italy suggest that any deal could include performance-related add-ons to help bridge the gap in valuation between the two clubs. Reports indicate a potential structure that includes a base fee plus bonuses.

Inter Milan‘s pursuit of Spence is driven by their need to find a replacement for a player who recently moved to Real Madrid. Personal terms are not expected to be a hurdle, and an agreement is anticipated to be reached. The fee Inter Milan might pay is expected to be slightly higher than what Tottenham paid to acquire Spence from Middlesbrough in 2022.

Spence’s representatives have reportedly explored various avenues for a move, with other prominent English clubs also being offered the chance to sign the defender. Both Liverpool and Manchester United are said to be assessing their options for defensive reinforcements. The versatility offered by Spence, who can cover both right and left sides, is considered valuable in modern squad building.

Despite the interest from multiple clubs, Inter Milan appears to be in advanced talks. The prospect of competing for the Scudetto at San Siro could be a significant factor for Spence, provided an agreement can be finalised with Tottenham. The defender’s stock remains high due to his performances during the World Cup, which showcased his ability in both attacking and defensive play.

Meanwhile, Tottenham has been active in the transfer market, securing new players this summer. The club also recently confirmed that a defender signed a new five-year contract, with the player expressing excitement about the club’s direction. Crystal Palace is also in discussions to re-sign a forward on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, and they are expected to complete deals for two other players from different clubs.

Inter Milan also held discussions with Tottenham regarding another defender, but that player appears set to join Atlético Madrid for a fee. An agreement on that fee is yet to be reached, but the defender is expected to move to La Liga despite interest from other clubs, including the Premier League champions.
