Elliot Anderson has completed a £116m transfer to Manchester City from Nottingham Forest, signing a five-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months. The midfielder, who was previously a target for Manchester United, expressed his enthusiasm for joining what he described as the “kings of Manchester.” This move was finalized after Anderson’s return from the World Cup, where he contributed to England‘s third-place finish.
The deal was initially agreed upon earlier in the month, with the finalization occurring this week. Anderson, at 23 years old, stated his excitement about joining “one of the biggest clubs in the world” and is focused on winning trophies. He noted the club’s consistent success over the past decade, highlighting their dominance as a key reason for his decision to join.
Anderson’s transfer fee represents a significant investment for Manchester City, exceeding the £100m spent on Jack Grealish in 2021. This acquisition also saw Manchester City fend off competition from Manchester United for the player’s services. The agreement between Nottingham Forest and Manchester City was reached before England‘s Group L match against Panama during the World Cup.

Anderson is already looking forward to participating in the Manchester derby, with the first fixture against Manchester United scheduled for September 13 at Old Trafford. He described the derby as one of the biggest in the world, emphasizing City‘s historical standing in Manchester.
The midfielder grew up admiring former City star Kevin De Bruyne, stating he has looked up to him for several years and always aspired to play like him. Anderson will join the squad for pre-season training next month under new manager Enzo Maresca, who took over in June after Pep Guardiola‘s departure.
