Mohamed Salah, the former Liverpool forward, is reportedly facing challenges in securing a move to the Saudi Pro League due to his financial demands. Clubs are said to be hesitant to meet the Egypt international’s requirements. Despite this, Sporting Kansas City has emerged as a leading MLS club interested in Salah’s signature, though his preference is to remain in Europe.

Salah, who was released by Liverpool after his contract’s final year, has been linked with various clubs across Europe and the Saudi Pro League. While open to an MLS move, his primary desire is to continue playing in Europe. The 34-year-old’s future has become a central topic following Egypt’s elimination from the World Cup.

The 2025-26 season saw Salah register seven goals and seven assists in the Premier League, a period during which the entire Liverpool squad reportedly faced difficulties. This followed a strong 2024-25 season where he contributed 29 goals and 18 assists in the league, leading Liverpool to a title.

European and MLS Transfer Market Activity

In other transfer news, Bayern Munich has reportedly informed Real Madrid that their France forward, Michael Olise, is not available for transfer this summer. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund and Germany attacker Karim Adeyemi is expected to join Barcelona in a deal.

A transfer battle is brewing for RB Leipzig and Netherlands defender Lutsharel Geertruida, with Arsenal and Liverpool both showing interest. Geertruida was on loan at Sunderland last season. Additionally, Manchester City and Tottenham are reportedly interested in Portuguese winger Francisco Trincao, potentially intercepting his move to Al-Ahli from Sporting.

Barcelona is also reportedly preparing to intensify their pursuit of Atletico Madrid and Argentina forward Julian Alvarez after this summer’s World Cup. Hull City has made a bid for Mjallby midfielder and Sweden international Elliot Stroud.

Goalkeepers and Midfielders in Demand

Manchester United is exploring options to sign additional midfielders after finalizing a deal for Chelsea and Brazil international Andrey Santos. The club is also in the market for a goalkeeper to compete with Senne Lammens, with Paraguay’s Orlando Gill being considered.

Interest is also growing for Greece centre-back Konstantinos Mavropanos from several Premier League sides and other European clubs, following his performance at relegated West Ham. Como hopes to sign Colombia defender Davinson Sanchez, but Galatasaray’s asking price could be a deterrent.

Newcastle United’s prospects of acquiring England goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City have improved as Aston Villa, a potential competitor for his signature, aims to retain their current number one, Emiliano Martinez. However, Chelsea is also reportedly interested in Trafford. New Benfica boss Marco Silva is looking to sign his former Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha, with a bid reportedly being prepared to bring the Portugal international from Bayern Munich after his loan spell at Tottenham last season.

Sporting Kansas City, under new majority owner Peter Mallouk, is looking to increase its ambition and spending this summer. The club is reportedly pursuing Toulouse winger Yann Gboho and Olympiacos winger Andre Luiz, with negotiations for Luiz reportedly more advanced. These potential deals could be among the most expensive in MLS history.

Gboho, a former France youth international, had 10 goals and three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions last season. Luiz joined Olympiacos in January and previously recorded seven goals and six assists in the first half of last season with Rio Ave FC.

Sporting KC is in a transitional season, with Rapha Wicky named head coach this winter. The team currently sits at the bottom of the Western Conference with 11 points after 14 matches.
