AFC Bournemouth has turned down an offer from Chelsea for midfielder Alex Scott. The south coast club has communicated to Chelsea that additional approaches for the player would not be welcomed, as they intend to retain one of their key players. This development occurs as Scott has reportedly declined a new contract offer that has been available for at least two months.
Despite Bournemouth’s firm stance, the situation remains complex. Scott is understood to be keen on a move, while Chelsea is accelerating its interest to deter other potential suitors. Discussions regarding a new deal for Scott began towards the end of the previous season, with Bournemouth making multiple offers. However, the midfielder has indicated he is not currently prepared to agree to new terms.
Contract Situation and Club Interest
Scott, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City, has two years remaining on his current contract. Bournemouth has publicly, and directly to the player and interested clubs, maintained that he will stay on the south coast, even if he continues on his existing deal. The club is reportedly under no pressure to sell, having secured qualification for the Europa League and generated substantial revenue from player sales last summer.
Several prominent clubs have expressed interest in Scott. Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham, and Manchester City were among those who showed interest earlier in the transfer window. Arsenal reportedly had an approach for Scott declined by Bournemouth in June. While Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with Scott, they have not yet made a formal approach for the England international.
Chelsea views Scott as a player who could refresh Thomas Tuchel’s squad following their recent semi-final exit. The club has reportedly placed a price tag on Enzo Fernandez, whom manager Xabi Alonso has stated he wishes to keep. However, it is unclear if any club will pursue Fernandez after Real Madrid reportedly ruled out a move for him.
Bournemouth’s Stance and Player Development
Bournemouth’s strategy includes retaining their top players, a stance also applied to forward Junior Kroupi and winger Rayan, both of whom have attracted interest from other clubs. Rayan, a Brazil international, is not expected to depart and has not indicated a desire to leave, having only joined the club in January.
Scott and Kroupi are currently with the squad for new manager Marco Rose’s pre-season training camp in Austria. Rayan is expected to return later, having participated in the World Cup with Brazil. Scott was included in his first England squad last November and was later called into Thomas Tuchel’s extended pre-World Cup training camp in Florida, though he has yet to make an appearance at the senior international level.
Scott joined Bristol City from Guernsey FC in 2020, making 91 appearances for the Championship side. After being named the division’s young player of the season, he moved to Bournemouth.
The summer transfer window has seen significant activity in the midfield market. Morgan Rogers has completed a move from Aston Villa to Chelsea. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is reportedly set to join Manchester City. Tottenham has also been active, acquiring Sandro Tonali from Newcastle and Mateus Fernandes from West Ham. Scott’s potential move remains a key point of discussion in the ongoing transfer window.
