Aston Villa is currently engaged in talks to secure Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea, with a potential loan deal under consideration. Chelsea, however, is seeking a permanent element to be included in any agreement for the winger.
Discussions regarding Garnacho were part of broader negotiations between the two clubs, which also involved the transfer of Morgan Rogers to Chelsea. Reports indicate that Chelsea is prepared for a sale of Garnacho in the current transfer window.
Garnacho’s Chelsea Tenure and Future
Garnacho, an Argentina international, joined Chelsea last September from Manchester United. His impact at Stamford Bridge has been limited, with one Premier League goal to his name. The arrival of Rogers and Sporting winger Geovany Quenda has increased the need for Chelsea to streamline their squad.
Xabi Alonso, Chelsea’s manager, acknowledged last week that the club is working with Garnacho and his representatives to find a suitable resolution. Garnacho has not yet returned to pre-season training as he seeks clarity on his future.
Other clubs have also shown interest in Garnacho. Roma is reportedly interested in signing him, and he also has admirers in the Saudi Pro League. Sources suggest that Garnacho would be open to a move to Villa Park, attracted by the prospect of regular playing time under Unai Emery.
Villa’s Transfer Activity and Squad Adjustments
If the deal for Garnacho is finalised, he would become Aston Villa‘s fourth signing this summer. The club has already brought in Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes, and Modou Kaba Cisse. Villa has also seen several player sales, with Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea, and Lewis Dobbin departing.
Villa’s summer plans have also been influenced by injuries and other departures. Amadou Onana has sustained a season-ending injury, and Youri Tielemans has completed his move. The Midlands club has moved to strengthen its midfield by agreeing a deal for Swiss youngster Johan Manzambi, and talks are ongoing for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes and Bayern Munich‘s Joao Palhinha.
Emery is also looking to bolster his attacking options following Rogers’ move to Chelsea. In addition to Garnacho, Aston Villa has held discussions with Chelsea regarding striker Nicolas Jackson. Jackson previously worked under Emery at Villarreal, and the Villa boss is said to be a keen admirer of the player. Negotiations for Jackson are expected to intensify once the Rogers transfer is officially completed.
Beyond the forward line, Villa’s recruitment efforts extend to other positions. The club is reportedly preparing for the anticipated departure of Lucas Digne, with Paris Saint-Germain reportedly ready to activate his release clause. As a result, Villa has turned its attention to AC Milan left-back Pervis Estupinan, with discussions expected to intensify once Digne’s move is finalised.
Villa is also active in the goalkeeper market, having conducted extensive work on Lens shot-stopper Robin Risser and Toulouse goalkeeper Guillaume Restes. This comes amid uncertainty surrounding the future of their long-serving goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez, with Juventus reportedly among the clubs showing interest.
Garnacho’s limited impact at Chelsea saw him average less than a certain number of minutes per game across his appearances last term in the Premier League.
