Midfield Transfer Pursuits
Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly made contact regarding a potential move for Wolves’ Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes. This development follows the collapse of United’s previously agreed deal for Atalanta’s Ederson, which was cancelled due to concerns arising during the midfielder’s medical examination.
United had initially agreed to a deal for Ederson in June, but the transfer was called off. The club is reportedly looking to strengthen its midfield, with Andrey Santos finalising a move from Chelsea. However, United remains active in the market for an additional central midfielder, leading to their reported interest in Gomes.

According to reports from Brazil, Liverpool has also engaged in discussions with Wolves concerning a fee for Gomes. The midfielder had previously seemed set to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
Gomes’ Previous Transfer Fell Through
Joao Gomes’ potential move to Atletico Madrid did not materialise. Reports indicate that Atletico withdrew from the deal due to dissatisfaction with agent Jorge Mendes’ conduct. Mendes, who represents Gomes, was reportedly involved in pushing Bernardo Silva towards Real Madrid after Jose Mourinho’s return as head coach.
Silva, who departed Manchester City on a free transfer at the end of the last season, had been in talks to join Atletico. However, Mendes’ subsequent actions reportedly led Atletico to abandon the pursuit of Gomes. Instead, Atletico reached an agreement to sign Sporting CP captain Morten Hjulmand.
Gomes made 35 appearances in the Premier League last season. Wolves acquired Gomes three years ago from Flamengo.
Other Transfer Speculations
In other transfer news, Chelsea has reportedly initiated discussions with representatives of Bologna’s English winger Jonathan Rowe. This comes amidst reports that Argentinian wide man Alejandro Garnacho is expected to leave the club.
MLS side Sporting Kansas City is reportedly aiming to sign Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah on a free transfer following his departure from Liverpool. Additionally, several English clubs, including Coventry City and West Ham, are monitoring Bodo/Glimt midfielder Patrick Berg, who performed for Norway at the World Cup.

Everton is reportedly interested in signing Newcastle United’s English winger Jacob Murphy, who has one year remaining on his contract. Real Madrid has scheduled a meeting with Vinicius Jr to finalise a contract renewal, despite earlier reports suggesting they were considering selling the Brazilian forward.
Paris St-Germain has reportedly contacted Spain and Barcelona forward Ferran Torres as a contingency, should winger Bradley Barcola leave this summer. Barcelona has also finalised an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign German forward Karim Adeyemi.
The agent of Roma attacking midfielder Matias Soule is reportedly in discussions with Sunderland and Fulham regarding a potential move. Former Hull City loanee Oscar Zambrano is expected to return to the club from Slovenian side Maribor, following a previous loan spell in 2024 that was cut short by a drugs ban.
Nottingham Forest has reportedly made contact with Fiorentina concerning a move for Brazilian right-back Dodo. Furthermore, Fulham has agreed to sign Celtic winger Erskine Rennie, with the Scottish academy product’s transfer set to involve a compensation fee.
